How to Win Friends and Influence
People by Dale Carnegie was named the business book of the 20th
century. However, it has been said that How to Stop Worrying and Start
Living
may be Dale Carnegie s more powerful book of the two in terms of
potential impact on a person s life. How effective can you be
with
human relations, if you are struggling with negative thoughts and
excessive worry? |

All of us face stress in our lives. It is how we handle it that
allows us to succeed in a stressful world. Most successful people
have experienced failure in their path to success. This month we
are focusing on developing a positive attitude to change our lives.
We hope
you enjoy this and every issue of our newsletter. With that in mind,

Cultivate a Mental Attitude that will Bring you Peace
and Happiness
by Jonathan Jones |
Fill your mind with thoughts of peace,
courage, health, and hope
To be positive, you have to think positive. As an Olympic gymnast
visualizes herself performing a perfect routine, we need to visualize
that ideal world we want to live in. Visualize peace, courage,
health and hope. Close your eyes now for a few moments to
visualize.
Never try to get even with
your enemies
If our vision is positive, why waste a beautiful attitude on negative
thoughts? Some enemies would love to get under your skin.
Don t give them the satisfaction. Focus on your goals. If
achieving your goals helps your enemies, so be it. You may turn
them into advocates. Don t let anyone else control your
thinking. Hate will destroy you. Love will support you.
Expect ingratitude
With so much stress in this world, people are thinking about their own
problems. Are you always thinking about what others have done for
you? Go ask any parent. Again, stay focused on your
happiness. Weather someone shows appreciation to you or not
should not change your attitude about them or anything. Just
assume they have a lot on their mind.
Count your blessings not
your troubles
I wept because I had no shoes, until I met a man with no feet.
We are so blessed to be alive. There are many heroes with
terminal illnesses that are thrilled to be with us. Helen Keller
and thousands of handicapped individuals have had major impacts to
humanity. Leveraging our strengths helps us to overcome our
weakness.
Do not imitate others
If we create vision for our own happiness and we focus on our strength,
why take the extra effort to mimic someone else with other strengths
and weaknesses. You will have more confidence as a fist rate YOU
than a second rate copy of someone else.
Try to profit from your
losses
Just like the old saying; When you only have lemons, make
lemonade. With a positive attitude, even the worst case scenario
can be turned into a positive situation. You may not get the
immediate prize you wanted, but persistence toward your vision of peace
and happiness will give you dream of.
Create happiness for others
You will find that happiness is greater when you create happiness for
others. Life is not fair. But if we try to make life better
for others, we have a warm peaceful feeling that we have made a
difference for someone else. Peace, courage, health, and hope are
much more enjoyable when we share it with others.

An Example of Persistence in a Life Time of Failures
|
At the age of seven, a young boy and his family were forced out of
their home, and the boy was forced to go to work.
When the boy was nine, his mother passed away.
He had a job as a store clerk, but lost it when he was twenty.
The young man wanted to go to law school, but had no education.
He went into debt when he was twenty-three, to become a partner in a
small store.
He ran for the state legislature, and was promptly defeated.
At twenty-six his business partner died, and left him with a debt that
took years for him to repay.
The next year he had a nervous breakdown...
He dated a girl for four years and, at the age of twenty-eight, decided
to ask her to marry him.
She turned him down.
Thirty-seven years into his life, he was elected to Congress... on his
THIRD try.
He then failed to be re-elected.
At forty-one, his four-year-old son died.
At forty-two, he was rejected as a prospective land officer.
At age forty-five, he ran for the Senate...and failed to be elected.
He persisted at politics and ran for the vice-presidency at age
forty-seven, and again lost.
At forty-nine, he ran for Senate again - and lost again...
Finally, at the age of fifty-one, this man was elected President of the
United States.
His name was Abraham Lincoln.
